Full Time Paraprofessional – Special Education

This position is for the 2024-2025 school year.

Position Overview: The special education paraprofessional's role is to work with students to meet their social, emotional, behavioral and instructional goals identified in their IEP, under the direct supervision of a special education teacher.  This assistance may occur in both the general education and/or special education setting based on the student's identified needs and will utilize positive, evidence-based, culturally responsive strategies.

Starting Salary: $17.50/hour.

Qualifications: Experience working with children with disabilities preferred, 2 year degree as teacher assistant or related field or able to obtain Wisconsin DPI Special Education Aide License.

The School District of Eleva-Strum is seeking a full-time cross categorical special education teacher to join our team. Details regarding the position:

Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Reports to: Director of Pupil Services

Position Start Date: 8/19/2024

Appointment Type: Full Time

Job Summary:

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities. They work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure that the unique needs of each student are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities, in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  2. Modify curriculum materials and instructional techniques to meet the needs of individual students.

  3. Collaborate with general education teachers to provide support and accommodations for students with disabilities in the general education setting based on a variety of instructional techniques and technologies

  4. Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.

  5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and progress reports.

  6. Communicate regularly with parents, administrators, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and IEP goals.

  7. Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and other school-related meetings as required.

  8. Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in professional development activities as needed.

  9. Create teacher and paraprofessional schedules that reflect services for students on caseload.

  10. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field

  • Valid teaching license/certification in Special Education

  • Experience working with students with disabilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations

PROSPECTIVE SUBSTITUTES

The Eleva-Strum School District is looking for qualified individuals to help fulfill both Teacher and Support Staff/Paraprofessional substituting needs for the 22-23 school year.  

To qualify as a substitute Teacher you need to:

  • hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university

AND

  • Have successfully completed an approved substitute training offered by Eleva-Strum School District

Or

  • Are at least 20 years of age

  • Enrolled in an educator preparation program, approved by the state superintendent that awards a bachelor's degree

  • Have successfully completed a minimum number of credits to have achieved junior status, AND

  • Have completed 15 hours of classroom observation

To qualify as a substitute Support Staff/Paraprofessional, you need to:

  • Have a background check completed by the school district

  • Onsite training provided

We will also be hosting an open house on Wednesday, August 31st, from 5-7 pm for those that have questions and to assist in obtaining the proper license.  

The School District of Eleva-Strum will pay for the application fee for any new individuals that sign up to sub in our district.

The daily rate for Teacher subbing in the Eleva-Strum School District is $125 and Support Staff/Paraprofessional subbing is $14/hour.
