Department Philosophy
The high school English department strives to foster the reading and writing skills necessary for students to become critical consumers of media and other texts. Instructional content, including selected readings, is designed to be accessible and equitable to all students, regardless of background and current situations, and challenge student bias and beliefs. We provide varied assessments and cooperative learning opportunities, which allow for student self-expression and demonstration of knowledge. Our ultimate goal is to provide meaningful instruction to every student, every day.
